Duplication Services - Standards Conversion

GMV Productions uses a Tetra Digital Standards Converter which encodes the video signal to foreign standards. This type of converter guarantees a higher quality conversion than the more commonly used industrial converters. This ensures our NTSC dubs are made to a superior grade. In fact, GMV Productions is the ONLY duplication facility that can produce NTSC SP Betacam dubs in Adelaide.

There are 3 major video standards or systems in use in the world today: PAL, NTSC, and SECAM and within these systems there are technical variations.

These systems determine how information is recorded and played back on a video tape. They are all incompatible with each other.

Australia uses the PAL system. If you or your clients view tapes that are from outside Australia, or plan on sending videos abroad, it is essential to know the video system of the country that is sending or receiving the video.

To achieve a superior conversion, it is recommended that a sub-master is made in the foreign system, e.g., NTSC SP Betacam, then SP Betacam to VHS copies are made.

Below is a rough map of the world with the different standards. To find out what system a particular country uses, select that country from the drop down menu.
